The Hotel Sokos Vaakuna is in the centre of Rovaniemi, so you’ve got shops, restaurants and bars at your fingertips. And, if you want to fit in some skiing while you’re here, the Ounasvaara ski slopes are less than five minutes away in a taxi. What’s more, this place is close to Rovaniemi’s magical Santa Park, where you can meet Father Christmas and his elves.
The hotel itself has a standout dining scene, with two à la carte restaurants to its name. Tex-Mex joint Amarillo serves up fajitas, burritos and quesadillas, as well as juicy steaks and burgers. If you’re feeling really hungry, go for the XXXL burger. Then there’s Fransmanni, which specialises in traditional French cooking. Starters include classics like snails in garlic butter, and for mains you can tuck in to dishes like chicken casserole and duck leg confit with mushroom ravioli. As for what else is on offer here, little ones are catered for in a big way. As well as their own menu in the restaurants, they’ve got a playroom and a games room. For adults, meanwhile, there’s a cosy English pub-style bar with a TV, as well as a nightclub where you can dance until the early hours. Lastly, a note on the bedrooms. They’re really smart, with dark-wood furnishings and chocolate-brown curtains the mainstays. Plus, they all come with nice-to-haves like flatscreen satellite TVs, minibars and hairdryers.
